Here we go again! The last year brought many events, and none of which I blogged about. The last year has been a whirlwind, and I seem to just now be catching my breath (maybe!) I have seriously missed out on posting my Friday confessions that I loved so much, and my Saturday happy lists. I will have to get back to that!

I have to tell a bit about last year...I'm sure those of you who know me well get tired of hearing about it, but I was very ill last year. I went to a church Young Women Camp June 2011. I had a GREAT time! Here's a snapshot

I was blessed to be a leader to about 15 teenage girls! I know, quite a job. But, the spirit of these girls was amazing! I learned so much. I love how much you can see these girls grow spiritually after a week with less provisions than we are use to living with. Thankfully, we still have running water...real toilets and real showers! So, we are not TOTALLY deprived!!

Anyway, we got back from camp on a Saturday afternoon. Went to church on Sunday. Worked out on Monday. Was sicker than a dog on Tuesday!!! I thought maybe I had gotten sick from the ONE tick I pulled off my belly while at camp. Thought maybe it was a 24 hour flu bug. BUT, when I woke up Wednesday and was still throwing up and SUPER dizzy, I had a friend drive me to the doctor. Little did I know that the scariest experience of my life was before me.

The doctor sent me to the Emergency Room. I decided I would go to the one closest to my house. (a smaller campus) The doctor did not lead me to believe that I was as sick as I was (either that, or I just don't remember...I was pretty out of it.) When I got to the ER, my blood pressure was only 60/40, I was barely alive. I was running a really high fever, and couldn't keep anything down. I hadn't eaten since Monday night. They immediately began running a BUNCH of tests. They tried to get a spinal tap...I was so dehydrated that they couldn't get it. In the meantime, Andy was on his way home from Manhattan, KS once he found out the doctor sent me to the ER. My friend Debbie was SO fantastic in taking care of me that day! I am SUPER blessed to have her as my friend. The ER decided to admit me, so I rode the ambulance that day. VERY UNCOMFORTABLE, by the way. Anyhow, once I got there, they proceeded to put a pic line in my neck and fed 5 different IV lines into me. They pumped TONS of fluid into me before the day ended. So many I can't even remember. In the beginning I was on 7 different anti-biotics. After they ruled out a certain infection, they would eliminate antibiotics one at a time. They were certain it was Toxic Shock Syndrome. I could not understand that, because I had always been careful. I knew how dangerous that could be. I was still convinced it was Lymes Disease. In fact, Lymes Disease and Toxic Shock Syndrome were the last two infections I was receiving antibiotics for by the last two days of my hospital stay. (This is a long story...sorry...but it's for my journaling, as well).

My poor husband, was not sleeping well. I was truly starting to feel better. So, on my third or fourth night there, he was not feeling great and not sleeping great, so I told him to go home. I was more alert that day, not sleeping as much, and really felt that I would be okay by myself. About 5am, I started having horrible pain in my chest. It felt like heart burn. And since I hadn't eaten for 3-4 days, I was sure the stomach acid in my body was causing the pain. Well, thanks to a nurse taking GREAT care of me, we found out that I was probably having a heart attack because of the infection. I had EKGs done a couple times. I was still running a fever, but the cardiologist was called and felt that an angiogram should be done. No blockages, and the heart was well. But, the infection had cause some damage (about 5% damage, between my heart and my lungs). SCARY!!! I was SO worried. I cried. A LOT!!! But after the angiogram, whatever they used to put me under, let me sleep really well. When I woke up from that, I felt SO much better. Shortly after, I was moved out of ICU. I was so grateful for that, because I knew that meant I was on the mend. On June 26, I got to go home. I was still very week. AND from laying on my back for so long, my lungs were weak, and I had a dry cough for quite some time after. I left the hospital still not knowing what caused me to be so ill. I had an infecious disease specialist follow up appointment two weeks after I got out though. When I went there, I found out it was an intestinal strain of Toxic Shock Syndrome. This was very scary. Because the survival rate for people who get TSS is only 40%. It was obvious to me that Heavenly Father still had work for me to do!

It was a fantastic trip. Here are a few photos. We enjoyed the falls! Boy, it was stinky. Dead birds all over the place. But, I had never been there, so I had to go see what it was all about.

It totally was a refreshing experience that was VERY needed. I truly don't think our children felt the same way. Zoie and Baylee were very disturbed, as they had just been without me for quite a time the month before. We were able to enjoy our drive through the mountains. And enjoy beautiful weather. While we were in Utah, it was 114 in Wichita, KS. Needless to say, we were not missing that!

A month later. I was back in the hospital. Gall bladder this time. CRAZY!! To me, it felt like a heart attack, which is what caused us to go in in the first place. So, we got that sucker taken out so I didn't have to worry about that feeling ever again!!

After that, life smoothed out quite a bit. It was quite funny, I was asked to give a talk in church on adversity shortly after all my episodes. I really can't for the life of me figure out why they asked me to give that talk! (LOL!!)

A couple months later I was asked to be the Relief Society President of the Rolling Hills Ward. This is a big assignment. But, I was thrilled to do it. You see, the people who took care of me most while I was going through both of my ordeals, were the very Relief Society Sisters that I now serve. I love them so very much! I am grateful for this experience. It allows me to dive into my scripture studies more often (because I am not great at doing this on my own. This prods me along a little). It also gives me the opportunites to serve others. My Heavenly Father knows me SO well! He knew exactly what I needed.

The year finished out great! Ya know, all the holidays and good food. SO great, that I have now gained back about half the weight I lost. UGH!! Time to get back to work. So, in order to motivate me more, I'm going to try to do my weekly weigh in on here again. That is if I can keep up my blogging.

I am super excited!! Only 36 more to go by the end of July! I was really suprised to lose this much this week. I haven't been exercising like normal, so I was expecting a little loss. But, 4 pounds in one week? I'll take it. I'm excited because I'm starting to feel it in my clothes. Not big differences, not things that people would notice by looking at me, but I feel it. So, anyway, there's my weekly update! I kinda updated in the confessional, but wanted to journal this as well!
I confess, I missed last weeks' confession. I didn't even realize it until Saturday.

I confess, I have trouble with forgetting things....ALL THE TIME!! I even have TWO calendars!!! Yes, I said two. AND, I still forget!! I can't help it. I think it's my age getting to me! Anyone relate?

I confess, this losing weight thing is tough! But, I tell ya, once you get use to eating a certain way, it gets a little easier. It's not as difficult to figure out what to eat. You just kinda know. But, excitedly, I have lost 14 pounds so far and I am SUPER duper excited!!!! I'm actually starting to "feel" like I'm losing, and that's a great feeling!!

I confess, even though it's a bit easier, I still am REALLY hungry for chocolate cake or a Reese's Peanut Butter cup! :(

I confess, I did not work out much this week. My workout buddy was at home tending a sick little girl, and I used that time to catch up on sleep(since my Zoie doesn't like to sleep through the night!) AND to do a little housekeeping (not as much as I should have)

Anyhow, I am not feeling all that creative today...so sorry if I bore you! Just didn't want to miss the chance to confess again! Happy Friday everyone! Enjoy your weekend!!
Only 40 more to go before the end of July!! I am so excited! I have been watching what I eat for about 4 weeks. If I can keep up this pace for the rest of the time I will exceed my goal! But, I do not want to get ahead of myself! This week was really tough. With Valentine's Day in the mix, the kids got candy! LOTS, and lots of candy. I managed to stay away from it, but had a difficult time staying away from the brownies I made and the lemon bars I made. I did look up calorie count for them, and made sure to journal that I ate them. BUT, I have to stay away!!!

Anyhow, I promised I would update! Wish me continued luck!

It is FRIDAY!! Time to confess some things again! Try to remember last week, as some may link together!!!

1. I confess, NO!! I have NEVER used my French again for ANYTHING!! Sad, isn't it?!

2. I confess, When I went back to Western Kansas to Garden City Community College, they only offered Spanish, so I changed languages! Conjugating verbs was never the same again....I kept getting them SO mixed up! AND, no I've never used Spanish either!

3. I confess, I was one of those kids in junior high that went to the skating rink EVERY friday night, and sometimes saturday night! HAD to be there!!!

4. I confess, I sometimes over spoil my oldest daughter because she helps out SO much with her sisters! She is one of my greatest accomplishments! She is so kind, loving and generous with her belongings and her time.

5. I confess, I'm at a loss for words today....I know, it doesn't happen very often. I kinda like to talk...a lot! I am definitely a social person, and hate not being around people for too long. I go completely stir crazy!!

Anyone else have any confessions to share! Click on the Confession button on the right hand side of the page and it will take you to confession to link up with others. It's great fun to learn about others! Join in! What will be your confession this week?
I like to have an excuse to get my kids something. My husband and I generally don't exchange gifts. We kinda do that throughout the year. Honestly, I like it better that way! It's more spontaneous, and much more of a surprise.

This weekend was my first Sunday to teach the Young Women. I had been teaching 6 and 7 year old kids for the past 2 years. So, mostly since it was my first Sunday with them, but also because Valentine's Day was coming up. I made these treats for my girls.

I thought I would give weekly updates. I may get really discouraged at times, but I will still try to do this. Very nice when I stepped on the scale and so far, I am down by 7 1/2 pounds. I still have a long way to go, but I am confident that I can achieve my goal. Worked out all days but the snow day this week. Even ran a mile one evening after having already done my workout for the day that day. Going to Zumba tomorrow. I made it yesterday, and it turned out delicious!

Hummus

2 cans Garbanzo beans (aka chickpeas) rinsed and drained
1/2 c. freshly squeezed lemon (I just used a little, not a HUGE lemon fan)
1/4 c. tahini paste
1-3 cloves of garlic (I used 3, cuz I LOVE garlic)
3T. olive oil
3/4 tsp. cumin
3/4 tsp. cayenne
1-2 pinches of black pepper
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. water

1/2 of lemon juice and all ingredients into blender. Blend to consistency of sour cream. Blend in the rest of lemon juice, to taste. If too thick, but don't want more lemon, use water to desired thickness. Transfer to a serving bowl, cover and refrigerate a few hours before serving. Drizzle of olive oil, garnish with parsley or black olives.

This can also be used as a sandwich spread. Especially good in a pita sandwich.

The hummus has 435 calories per 1 cup. ( I only ate 1/4 cup, with about 17 pretzels, the little ones) So my total snack was around 200 calories. It was also very filling!! Give it a try and let me know what you think!
Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-58320534293035840992011-02-11T13:38:00.003-06:002011-02-11T13:43:07.458-06:00Snow Day Treat
So, a couple of days ago, the girls were home for a snow day. We watched a lot of movies, played, had bath time, etc. I like to give them some sort of treat, or do something they would really enjoy. Since Zoie and Baylee do so well in school on certain things (returning library books on time, good percentage for potty training, things of this sort) they get certificates to reward them. We decided to redeem our Wendy's certificates. The girls enjoyed this feast...

Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-56114493056671949402011-02-10T14:55:00.005-06:002011-02-10T15:00:50.105-06:00A Few Pics From the Last Few Months

Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-25952602754778953052011-02-09T10:42:00.003-06:002011-02-09T10:57:04.853-06:00The Kids Are Home
What do we do? SLEEP!! Baylee always sleeps well, but Zoie usually doesn't. I was so suprised when my husband's phone went off at 6:30am this morning and that was the first I had been awakened! Zoie slept all night!!!! Jenna, on the other hand, would sleep FOREVER! (normal teenager!) I had to wake her up to help out today! Since the girls have had so many snow days, I have had a very difficult time sticking with my routine. I. HAVE. GOT. TO. CATCH. UP!! One day, it will happen.

I made homemade laundry soap the other day. It was very easy. I have been pleasantly suprised at how well it cleans the clothes. AND, without adding the *optional* essential oils, I like the fragrance. The recipe is below:

2/3 bar Fels Naptha

1/2 c. Arm and Hammer Washing Soda

1/2 c. borax powder

2 gallon bucket

1. Grate soap finely and place in sauce pan

2. Add 6 cups of water and heat until soap is melted.

3. Add washing soda and borax and stir until it's dissolved. Remove from heat.

4. Pour 4 cups of hot water into bucket.

5. Now add soap mixture to bucket and stir.

6. Add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water to the bucket and stir.

7. Let the soap sit for about 24 hours and it will gel. Use 1/2 cup per load.

8. You can add 1 oz of your favorite essential oil to the mixture as well. But the fragrance is very fresh, clean smelling.

I was told this costs about 1 to 2 cents per load. When buying the ingredients, it was about $9 or less for everything. The only thing I will have to buy the next time I make it is the Fels Naptha, and it was only $1.79.

I was told for whites, just add a teaspoon of baking soda to the wash cycle. I haven't done my whites yet, so I haven't tried it, but Zoie and Baylee's coats have white on them, that had gotten quite dingey and the white turned out very bright after washing with the homemade laundry soap. I am SOLD!!!

My husband thinks I am crazy when I begin trying "new" things....but, he humors me! So thankful for that!

Happy Snow day to you all! (well, for us anyway....I hear 8.5 inches is what we got....UNHEARD of!) I will be watching a TON of movies and cleaning all day....what will you do with your snow day?

Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-83188314729215341932011-02-08T11:07:00.003-06:002011-02-08T11:23:03.897-06:00Happy Tuesday!
Well, here it is February! It's been since September since I last posted on my blog! For SHAME, for shame!! I know, not the best at this. I must strive to do better!!

I have been trying a "lifestyle change"!! Really working hard to watch what I eat, and exercise everyday (but Sunday). It's only been 2 1/2 weeks, and I feel great! The thing that's different this time is that I have a great friend doing this right along with me. (makes all the difference in the WORLD!) AND, I give myself three "cheat" meals per week. This makes it a lot easier to stick with it the rest of the time. Because, if there are events going on in the upcoming week, I can plan ahead for those events.

My goal is to lose 50 pounds by the end of July. I picked this time, because Andy and I will be travelling to the Angelman Syndrome Foundation Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. I figured it would be a good time marker and goal to reach for! After that, I will still have a lot left to lose, but will be over half-way to where I want to be! SO, if you see me, and I seem grouchy....it's because I am a food addict, and this is very hard for me! BUT, so far I haven't noticed a difference in my mood....lucky you!!

It has been snowing a lot here in the last few weeks. The kids have used all their snow days (almost, I think they have a half day left), and it is REALLY snowing outside right now!! We are suppose to get 3 to 5 inches, I believe. Jenna is actually NOT happy about this. You see, last week they were suppose to have their choir performance at Wilburpalooza, and it was cancelled due to school being cancelled for extreme wind chills. So, it was rescheduled for tonight....now it's snowing a LOT!! And, she does not want it to be cancelled again. Phil Stacey from American Idol is performing there tonight...he is a Wilbur alum. He was a finalist in one of the seasons, I forget which one! (I know, that's awful, isn't it?)

So, anywho....fingers crossed that my little lady gets to have her performance tonight!!

Here's a picture from the largest snow we had LAST year!! Ain't they CUTIES?!

Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-30877170029191192892010-09-17T16:45:00.001-05:002010-09-17T16:47:18.623-05:00The Miracle of the Holy BibleSo often we forget the teachings of Jesus Christ. For days she had been counting down to the day she got her braces! She was so disappointed when we went for her appointment in July and all she got was her palate expander. She was really wanting to have them before school started. She wore the palate expander for quite some time, we cranked it every night. Because of this, she got a huge gap in her two front teeth. Her daddy nicknamed her Beaver! It was bad....everytime she talked we teased....poor girl! She is gonna be tough coming from the two of us!

Anyhow, after awhile, because the expander was attached to a loose tooth, it pushed the tooth out and the root was cutting into her cheek. So, we had to go in and have it looked at. He pulled the tooth and that part of the expander out. She was happy about that! PLUS, he told us we didn't have to crank the expander anymore! YAY!!! So, the gap came back together some as we awaited her September 7th appointment. (which was after school started, by the way!) She had school pictures last week....she is already determined she will have retakes so that she has her braces on in the picture!

So, here she is, sitting in the car before braces!

She made me leave a half hour before the appointment. I did it so I didn't have to listen to her beg me to go anymore. It gave me a great excuse to stop for a Diet Coke!

The appointment was over in no time! I tried to be silly while her mouth was held open with this big plastic thing that kept her cheeks away from her teeth....but, not so silly that it was more uncomfortable than it actually was! So, here are the results!

They have these little rubberbands that hold the wire on. She got to choose colors. She chose blue and lime green. She is NOT a girly girl, and states that she will NOT have pink rubberbands ANYTIME during the two years that she will be in braces!!! I keep hoping that she will turn a little girly, sometime! Until then, we will deal with blue and lime green, camo colors, and WSU colors, I'm sure! Anyhow, She has them on. It's only been one day, and I can already see a difference....INSANE how these things work!

She will have the most beautiful teeth in our entire family! Of course, she is beautiful no matter how her teeth look!!

Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-84007399139205345942010-08-23T21:31:00.005-05:002010-08-23T21:48:26.777-05:00Grandma's 80th Birthday PartyJenna and I went to Garden City (my hometown) to visit for my Grandma's 80th birthday! She is an AMAZING woman! I learn so much from her. She has always worked VERY hard. She was a farmer's wife, and worked right along side him to build their farm. Lately she has travelled to Arizona for the winters. She deserves this special time to enjoy herself! The following picture is of my grandma with her kids and stepkids. They were all able to make it to her party except one stepchild who lives in California.

Jenna is pictured above with Natalie(dark haired) and Carlie (blonde)! Natalie and Carlie are twins. They are my cousins. They are 3 months older than Jenna. They always have so much fun together! And, it is always entertaining to watch them together. I had never thought of this song in this way before! The Angelman saying is "I may not speak, but I have much to say!" This song explains it perfectly! And the mother's notes within the song explain how it feels for many Angelman parents. I hope you enjoy! I just cried, because I know EXACTLY how it feels times two!!Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-54235781341454122682010-08-16T21:43:00.003-05:002010-08-16T21:58:53.867-05:00First Day of School 2010-2011Baylee (green) and Zoie(blue) woke up knowing it was a great, fun day ahead of them! They were all wound up, and super excited! I always have them go ahead and ride the bus, then I take their school supplies up to the school. They were even more excited there. Zoie came up to me and hugged on me, as if she was saying, "Oh, mom.....I've missed my friends, do you see my friends? They're all here!" And Baylee, well, she smiled at me, then she continued to play with the toys! Didn't come over to me at all! My little girls are growing up!

Last night, Jenna wanted to have a her nails polished. We also bought a striping fingernail polish to make zebra stripes. I must say, I need a little more practice at this!We did her toe nails too! Used the striping polish on her big toe, and put lime green heart gems on them as well!

She looked so pretty today! She has grown up so much! She loves camo....so she was totally stoked to wear this new outfit!

Notice, she's not smiling with her mouth open. She got a palate spreader put in earlier this summer, because of this, she has a big gap between her front two teeth. She refuses to let me get a picture that shows this. She will get her braces put on September 7th, and the kid CANNOT wait! (crazy!)All in all it was a great first day of school! I got to go workout, and I got to spend the afternoon with Andy cuz he was off work. Now, here's to hoping we keep up the momentum throughout the school year. Sticking with a particular routine will be nice....now, if I can just stick with it!

Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-63822864207194205622010-08-16T21:16:00.003-05:002010-08-16T21:42:57.689-05:00Chuck-E-Cheese on 4th of JulyBaylee loved riding the Jet Ski! But, I did get it accomplished. I was SO nervous....I wanted so badly to run the entire thing! I was so EXCITED at the same time! I trained for 6 weeks. When I started the training, I couldn't even run for 2 minutes. The first week, that's what you do, you run for 2 minutes, walk for 5 minutes....repeated 4 more times. I was EXHAUSTED after 30 seconds of running.

The first weekend, you're suppose to run 1/2 mile.....well, I did it.(on the treadmill, way different than being outside!) Anyhow, I gradually worked up to the 3.2 miles. I had trained with 5 wonderful women. They are all inspirations to me, in so many ways! Love each and every one of them. I always still felt like part of the group, even though I am a VERY SLOW runner. (plus, I have SEVERAL more pounds on this body of mine than they do!) I trained using my daughter's ipod, which we had loaded up with many fast paced songs that get you moving! I was so excited!

Well, the morning of the race came, I got on my running pants, my running shoes, my Race for the Cure T-shirt, and hooked the ipod on, and out the door I went! Got to the race.....it was like a carnival. Energy was high. I was LOVING it!!!!! We get to the starting line for the 5K race, and when they start the race, they play the song, "I Run for Life" by Melissa Etheridge. (If you haven't heard it, you should listen to it....be careful though, it's a tear-jerker!) I get the ipod cued up to "Miss Independent"....not even to the chorus of the song, and the ipod dies. I had forgotten to charge it the night before!! How was I going to make it through this race? I was so upset with myself! The whole time I had trained with music! What was I going to do? So, I started thinking about my aunts who have fought breast cancer. Two of them lost their battle, and one is alive and well. So, I began thinking about them and how much I missed them. Tears streaming down my face as I thought about how they were probably with me at that time. I thought of how fun, silly, and crazy they were! Love those special ladies.

Anyway, I finished. I ran the entire time, and it took me 42 minutes. Not my personal best, but I took it! I cried a lot that day! I kept thinking of how hard it was to get ready for this race, how I did it for special people, and how I stuck with something even though it was difficult. AND, I got to train with wonderful women who encouraged me, and lifted me up when I thought there was no way I could do it!

It's that time again! Today is the first day of training. The best part is, the two minutes of running, seems like nothing! I love that I have continued to exercise.....even if it's not as much running. I love that I have continued friendships with the women I ran with last year, and that they will be training again this year, as well! Race day is September 25th, and I cannot WAIT to get a better time than 42 minutes!

Here's a picture of me approaching the finish line, and a picture of me and the wonderful ladies I worked with!

Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7758169715283169043.post-49022312000348019052010-08-16T20:14:00.003-05:002010-08-16T20:24:34.132-05:00So Far BehindI'm trying very hard to get back into the swing of things since the kids are back in school....ALL of them! Jenna was home all summer, and we had SO much fun!

Here's some photos from last school year. Jenna had "favorite sport's team day" at school. She's all decked out in her Wichita State University garb! She gets all this stuff from my mom since she works for WSU.

We had a blast getting ready for this day! We took an old pair of jeans and painted them with acrylic paints. All her friends were envious! They asked her, "Your mom lets you paint on your jeans?" She said, "Yep, it was her idea!" They turned out great, and she loved the attention! Isn't she the cutest?

Stephanie Headleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13173408028780810250noreply@blogger.com0
